This Week’s Brew: Understanding Coffee Beans

1. Single-Origin vs. Blends:

- Single-Origin: Coffee beans sourced from a single location, offering unique flavours that reflect the region's terroir. These are perfect for those who love to explore distinct taste profiles. - Blends: A mix of beans from different regions, skilfully combined to create a balanced and complex flavour. Blends are ideal for those who enjoy a consistent taste in every cup.

2. Roast Levels:

- Light Roast: Retains most of the beans' original flavours, often fruity and acidic. Great for pour-over or drip coffee. - Medium Roast: Offers a balance between the beans' natural flavours and the roasting process, resulting in a smoother, more rounded taste. Perfect for any brewing method. - Dark Roast: Rich, bold, and often with a smoky flavour. Ideal for espresso or French press.

Grind Guide: Matching Grinds to Brewing Methods

1. Coarse Grind:

- Best For: French Press, Cold Brew - Description: Chunky, similar to sea salt. Allows for a slow extraction, resulting in a smooth, rich flavour.

2. Medium Grind:

- Best For: Drip Coffee Makers, Pour-Over - Description: Texture of sand. Provides a balanced extraction, bringing out the coffee's natural flavours.

3. Fine Grind:

- Best For: Espresso, Aeropress - Description: Similar to table salt. Facilitates quick extraction, perfect for intense, flavourful shots of espresso.

Accessory of the Week: The Perfect Coffee Scale

Elevate your brewing precision with a high-quality coffee scale. Accurate measurements of coffee and water can drastically improve your brew's consistency and taste. Look for features like a built-in timer and a tare function to make your brewing process seamless.
